In a moment marked by both solemn remembrance and renewed commitment to the future of Ukraine, the Spiritual Center of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the United States of America in South Bound Brook, New Jersey, welcomed a distinguished delegation from Ukraine. The visit of Mr. Denys Uliutin, Minister of Social Policy, Family, and Unity of Ukraine, accompanied by Ms. Tetiana Kiriienko, Deputy Minister, Serhii Hudiash, Advisor to the Minister, and escorted by the Permanent Representative of Ukraine to the United Nations, Ambassador Andriy Melnyk, together with his wife Svitlana, became a profound encounter between Church, state, and the living conscience of a suffering yet unbroken nation.

Upon arrival at the historic St. Andrew the First-Called Ukrainian Orthodox Memorial Church - the spiritual heart of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the USA and a sacred monument dedicated to the victims of the Holodomor of 1932–1933 - the delegation was greeted by the resounding bells of the church, their solemn peal echoing across the grounds as a call to prayer, memory, and unity.

At the entrance to the holy temple, His Eminence Archbishop Daniel warmly received the delegation on behalf of His Eminence Metropolitan Antony, Prime Hierarch of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the USA. He was joined by the Very Rev. Fr. Vasyl Pasakas, pastor of St. Andrew Memorial Church, and Protopresbyter Stephen Hutnick, Treasurer of the Consistory as well as Very Rev. Fr. Vasyl Shak and Very Rev. Fr. Ivan Tchopko – staff members of the Consistory of the UOC of the USA. Together, they welcomed the ministerial delegation into the sacred space that stands as one of the first monuments in the Western Hemisphere dedicated to the millions of innocent victims of the artificially engineered famine inflicted upon Ukraine by the Soviet regime.

As the delegation entered the church, seminarians of St. Sophia Ukrainian Orthodox Theological Seminary intoned the Paschal hymn: “Christ is risen from the dead, trampling down death by death, and upon those in the tombs bestowing life!” This triumphant proclamation of the Resurrection framed the visit within the theological truth that even in the face of death, suffering, and historical injustice, life in Christ prevails.

In his words of welcome, Archbishop Daniel emphasized the enduring mission of the Church: “Your presence here today is not merely a diplomatic gesture - it is a pilgrimage of conscience. This holy place reminds us that the wounds of the past are not forgotten, and that our responsibility before God is to transform memory into action, compassion, and justice.”

He further noted that for decades, the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the USA has been actively engaged in humanitarian outreach, particularly in caring for orphans and vulnerable children throughout Ukraine, including regions deeply affected by war and economic hardship in eastern and central Ukraine. This ministry, he emphasized, continues with even greater urgency today, as Ukraine endures the ongoing consequences of Russia’s brutal and unprovoked war.

Minister Denys Uliutin, visibly moved by the visit, offered words of gratitude and reflection: “To stand in this sacred place - built in memory of those who perished in the Holodomor - is to encounter the truth of our history and the strength of our people. Today, Ukraine once again faces aggression, suffering, and loss. Yet, just as faith sustained our nation through the darkest chapters of the twentieth century, so too does it sustain us now. We are deeply grateful to the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the United States for its unwavering support - for humanitarian aid, for spiritual solidarity, and for preserving the truth about our past.”

Following the short prayer and a meeting with seminarians, the delegation proceeded to the Holy Resurrection Mausoleum, where the earthly remains of Metropolitan/Patriarch Mstyslav (Skrypnyk) rest. The delegation also visited the museum dedicated to his life and legacy - one of tireless advocacy for Ukrainian Church independence and national dignity.

Continuing along the pathways of St. Andrew Cemetery, the delegation paused at the central memorial Cross. There, before the gently waving Ukrainian flag, a bouquet of flowers was laid in honor of all who have given their lives for Ukraine - both in past struggles and in the present war. Together, clergy and faithful chanted: “Memory Eternal! Христос Воскрес!” - uniting remembrance with the hope of the Resurrection.

In the afternoon, Minister Uliutin and the delegation visited the Consistory Offices of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the USA, where a formal meeting was held with Archbishop Daniel. Discussions focused on the Church’s extensive charitable and humanitarian ministries, including aid to internally displaced persons, wounded soldiers, orphaned children, and families affected by the ongoing war initiated by the Russian Federation.

Minister Uliutin spoke with clarity about the present reality facing Ukraine: “The war has brought immense suffering to our people - countless lives lost, families torn apart, children displaced, and entire communities destroyed. The atrocities committed by the Russian Federation are not only crimes against Ukraine, but against humanity. In this context, the partnership between the Ukrainian state and faithful communities in the diaspora is not optional - it is essential.”

As a sign of gratitude, the Minister presented Archbishop Daniel with a commemorative coin honoring the men and women of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, including military chaplains who minister on the front lines.

Receiving the gift with deep emotion, Archbishop Daniel reflected: “This coin represents more than valor - it is a sacred reminder that even in the horrors of war, the human spirit, guided by faith, refuses to surrender. As one who has served and continues to minister to those in uniform, I receive this with profound gratitude and with prayer for every defender of Ukraine.”

In return, on behalf of Metropolitan Antony, Archbishop Daniel presented Minister Uliutin and Deputy Minister Kiriienko with a collection of spiritual gifts, including a historical volume on St. Andrew Memorial Church and Cemetery, a prayer book, and a commemorative coin of the Church.

“We offer these not merely as symbols,” the Archbishop noted, “but as witnesses to the living faith of our people - a faith that has endured famine, persecution, and now war, and yet continues to proclaim: Christ is Risen.”

The visit of Minister Denys Uliutin and the Ukrainian delegation to the Spiritual Center of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the USA stands as a powerful testament to the unity between Ukraine and its Diaspora, between Church and state, and between memory and mission. In a time when Ukraine continues to defend its sovereignty and dignity against unjust aggression, such encounters reaffirm that the struggle is not only political or military - it is deeply moral and spiritual.

Here, at the foot of a monument built in memory of past genocide, and in the light of the Resurrection, the commitment was renewed: to remember, to serve, and to stand firmly for truth, justice, and the God-given dignity of every human life.

Міністр Денис Ульютін у Духовному Центрі Української Православної Церкви США

У час, позначений одночасно урочистою пам’яттю та оновленим прагненням до майбутнього України, Духовний Осередок Митрополії Української Православної Церкви Сполучених Штатів Америки у Саут-Баунд-Бруку, штат Нью-Джерзі, прийняв поважну делегацію з України. Візит Міністра соціальної політики, сім’ї та єдності України пана Дениса Ульютіна, у супроводі заступниці Міністра пані Тетяни Кирієнко, радника міністра Сергія Худіяша та за участі Постійного представника України при Організації Об’єднаних Націй, Надзвичайного і Повноважного Посла Андрія Мельника разом із його дружиною Світланою, став глибокою зустріччю Церкви, держави та живої совісті народу, який страждає, але залишається незламним.

Після прибуття до історичної Української Православної церкви-пам'ятника святого апостола Андрія Первозванного - духовного серця Української Православної Церкви США та священного монументу, присвяченого жертвам Голодомору 1932–1933 років - делегацію зустрів урочистий передзвін церковних дзвонів, що лунав як заклик до молитви, пам’яті та єдності.

На вході до святині делегацію тепло привітав Його Високопреосвященство Архієпископ Даниїл від імені Митрополита Антонія, Предстоятеля Української Православної Церкви США. Разом із ним гостей зустрічали всечесніший протоієрей Василь Пасакас, настоятель храму святого Андрія, протопресвітер Степан Гутник, скарбник Консисторії, а також всечесніші протоієреї Василь Шак та Іван Чопко - співробітники Консисторії Української Православної Церкви США. Разом вони ввели делегацію у священний простір, що є одним із перших у Західній півкулі пам’ятників, присвячених мільйонам невинних жертв штучно створеного голоду, вчиненого радянським режимом проти України.

Під час входу до храму семінаристи Семінарії святого Софії Української Православної Церкви США заспівали пасхальний тропар: «Христос воскрес із мертвих, смертю смерть подолав і тим, що в гробах, життя дарував!»Це переможне свідчення Воскресіння надало візиту глибокого богословського змісту, нагадуючи, що навіть перед обличчям смерті, страждання і історичної несправедливості життя у Христі перемагає.

У своєму слові привітання Архієпископ Даниїл підкреслив незмінну місію Церкви: «Ваша присутність тут - це не лише дипломатичний жест, але справжнє паломництво сумління. Це святе місце нагадує нам, що рани минулого не забуті, а наша відповідальність перед Богом полягає в тому, щоб перетворити пам’ять у дію, співчуття і справедливість».

Владика також зазначив, що протягом десятиліть Українська Православна Церква США активно здійснює гуманітарне служіння, зокрема опіку над сиротами та вразливими дітьми в Україні, особливо в регіонах, що зазнали значного впливу війни та економічних труднощів у східній і центральній частинах країни. Це служіння сьогодні є ще більш нагальним у світлі триваючої жорстокої та неспровокованої війни Російської Федерації проти України.

Міністр Денис Ульютін, глибоко зворушений побаченим, зазначив: «Стояти в цьому святому місці - збудованому на пам’ять про жертв Голодомору - означає зустрітися з правдою нашої історії та силою нашого народу. Сьогодні Україна знову переживає агресію, біль і втрати. Проте, як віра підтримувала наш народ у найтемніші сторінки ХХ століття, так вона підтримує нас і сьогодні. Ми щиро вдячні Українській Православній Церкві США за її незмінну підтримку - гуманітарну допомогу, духовну солідарність і збереження історичної правди».

Після короткої молитви та зустрічі з семінаристами делегація відвідала Мавзолей Воскресіння Христового, де спочивають земні останки Митрополита і Патріарха Мстислава (Скрипника). Гості також оглянули музей, присвячений його життю і служінню - служінню невтомного захисника незалежності Української Церкви та національної гідності.

Продовжуючи свій шлях алеями цвинтаря святого Андрія, делегація зупинилася біля центрального меморіального хреста. Тут, перед тихо майоріючим українським прапором, було покладено квіти на честь усіх, хто віддав своє життя за Україну - як у минулому, так і в сучасній війні. Разом духовенство і вірні проспівали: «Вічная пам’ять! Христос Воскрес!» - поєднуючи пам’ять із надією Воскресіння.

У другій половині дня Міністр Ульютін разом із делегацією відвідав офіси Консисторії Української Православної Церкви США, де відбулася офіційна зустріч з Архієпископом Даниїлом. Під час розмови було обговорено широкий спектр благодійних та гуманітарних ініціатив Церкви, включаючи допомогу внутрішньо переміщеним особам, пораненим воїнам, сиротам і родинам, які постраждали від війни, розв’язаної Російською Федерацією.

Міністр Ульютін чітко окреслив сучасні виклики, що стоять перед Україною: «Війна принесла нашому народові величезні страждання - незліченні втрати життів, розбиті родини, переміщені діти, зруйновані громади. Злочини, вчинені Російською Федерацією, є злочинами не лише проти України, але й проти всього людства. У цьому контексті партнерство між Українською державою та віруючими громадами діаспори є не просто важливим - воно є життєво необхідним».

На знак вдячності Міністр передав Архієпископу Даниїлу пам’ятну монету, присвячену мужності та жертовності воїнів Збройних Сил України, включаючи військових капеланів, які несуть своє служіння на передовій.

Приймаючи цей дар із глибоким зворушенням, Архієпископ Даниїл зазначив: «Ця монета символізує не лише мужність - вона є священним нагадуванням, що навіть у жахах війни людський дух, укріплений вірою, не піддається. Як той, хто служив і продовжує служити серед військових, я приймаю цей дар із щирою вдячністю і молитвою за кожного захисника України».

У відповідь, від імені Митрополита Антонія, Архієпископ Даниїл вручив Міністрові Ульютіну та заступниці Міністра Кирієнко духовні дари - історичне видання про Меморіальний храм і цвинтар святого Андрія, молитовник та пам’ятну монету Церкви.

«Ми даруємо їх не лише як символи, але як свідчення живої віри нашого народу - віри, яка пережила голод, переслідування і війну, і яка продовжує проголошувати: Христос Воскрес!»

Візит Міністра Дениса Ульютіна та української делегації до Духовного Центру Української Православної Церкви США став потужним свідченням єдності між Україною та її діаспорою, між Церквою і державою, між пам’яттю та служінням. У час, коли Україна продовжує захищати свою свободу і гідність від несправедливої агресії, такі зустрічі підтверджують: ця боротьба має не лише політичний чи військовий вимір - вона є глибоко моральною і духовною.

Саме тут, біля підніжжя монумента, зведеного на пам’ять про жертви геноциду, і в світлі Воскресіння Христового, знову прозвучало покликання: пам’ятати, служити і твердо стояти за правду, справедливість і Богом даровану гідність кожної людини.
